Prof. Jenny Williams presented her talk on ‘Subjective Theories and the Politics of Translation’. The paper drew on several interesting contemporary examples of the theories those outside of translation studies have of the translation and interpreting world. Such theories may not be well-informed or consistent, but are commonplace and influential across the globe. Prof. Williams concluded with comprehensive proposals on how to deal with such subjective theories and their implications both in and outside of translation studies and related fields.
