The School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) at Dublin City University is offering PhD scholarships across several topics (see list below and full details on applying).
The Centre for Translation and Textual Studies (CTTS) encourages candidates with interest in Translation and Textual Studies in particular to apply. Specifically, topics such as the following are of interest:

SALIS is a multilingual, multicultural research-focused school with specialisms in applied linguistics, translation studies, comparative literature, and intercultural studies. Our research takes in European and Asian languages and cultures, and frequently crosses boundaries – disciplinary, linguistic or other. Our scholarship is increasingly concerned with digital technologies.

As part of our commitment to ensuring excellence in doctoral-level research, SALIS is pleased to offer a number of scholarships for full-time PhD students commencing at the end of September, 2015.
Successful candidates will be paid a stipend of €16,000 per annum for up to four years, subject to satisfactory annual progression. Registration fees will also be paid.
Eligibility:
Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree at 2.i or first-class honours level (or equivalent). Ideally they should also hold a relevant Master’s qualification. Candidates who are currently completing a Master’s qualification are welcome to apply.
Candidates must also be capable of contributing to the delivery of modules in SALIS, particularly in the following areas: French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese or English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
Application Procedure:
Interested candidates must first agree a research proposal with a member of academic staff in SALIS. Information on academic staff in SALIS, their research interests and their contact email addresses can be found at the following link (under ‘People’): http://www.dcu.ie/salis/index.shtml.
Candidates should email their applications in a single pdf file to: salis.office@dcu.ie putting SALIS PhD scholarships in the subject line. Applications should include the following:
- A CV (no more than two A4 pages) including names and contact details of two academic referees
- A copy of undergraduate and (where applicable) postgraduate degree certificates
- Copies of transcripts from undergraduate and, where applicable, postgraduate programmes (all years)
- A letter written by the candidate outlining their suitability for the scholarship
- A research proposal. This should be no more than 3,000 words long, and must include the name of a potential supervisor in SALIS, who must have already approved the proposal. The proposal should be accompanied by a bibliography (which is not included in the word count).
