Dr Qi Zhang

Biography

Dr Qi Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies, Dublin City University. She received her M.A. in Translation at Durham University and Ph.D. in Linguistics at Newcastle University. Her teaching ranges from translation modules, e.g. Chinese Economic Translation, Chinese Scientific/Technical Translation, to language and cultural modules, e.g. Chinese Literature and Film. Since joining SALIS in 2011, she has expanded her research interests to include the use of machine translation in  language learning.

Research interests include:
  • Sociolinguistics: language attitudes, dialectology, world Englishes
  • Translation and interpreting: the use of machine translation in language learning,  community interpreting
  • Applied linguistics: teaching Chinese as a foreign language
  • Intercultural communication: intercultural sensitivity through language learning
